Termite Control For Boats
Complete termite protection for boat owners in Long Beach, Redondo Beach, Wilmington, and beyond!
Most of the time, when you think of termites, you think of them invading your California home. It’s true these pesky pests pose an enormous threat to wooden structures. They can eat through support beams and floor joists and wall studs galore, reducing a building to dust if you let them, but did you know boats are just as vulnerable to termite infestations, if not more vulnerable, as your home is?
Boats create the perfect environment for termites to thrive. They have everything they need in a boat; wood, water, and shelter. That means you should never ignore signs of termites on your boat. You should also consider taking preventative measures to avoid a marine termite infestation in the first place. Fortunately, the experts here at A-1 Bonded Termite can help!
Our Termite Management Process For Boats
As we said above, boats make the perfect environment for termites to thrive. These social insects have to bring moisture up inside their nests to survive (except for drywood termites). Lucky for them, the water is right there on a boat! Fiberglass and aluminum boats have little to worry about, of course, but even a houseboat or sailboat with a fiberglass hull likely still has wooden components for termites to infest. Common areas include exterior cabinets, access hatches, window sills, inside the engine compartment, and other areas where you’ll find wooden components.
These areas are where we look first when we inspect your boat. If you suspect a termite infestation on your vessel, we’ll come out to your harbor to conduct a thorough (and free) termite inspection. We’re approved for many harbors around the Long Beach area as well as in Redondo Beach and Wilmington, and if you don’t see your preferred marina on our list, we’ll do our best to obtain permission to visit and work right where your boat is.
Once we locate termites, we’ll develop as non-invasive a plan as possible to effectively treat them. If your boat only has a small, localized infestation, we’ll do our best to treat just the affected area and apply preventative treatments to the rest of your boat. Thoroughly infested boats may require us to perform a full fumigation service.
We can also help you out if you’re worried about termites but don’t have them yet. For preventative purposes, we use barrier treatments. These treatments create a protective barrier against termite invasion rather than treating the colony after the fact. Barriers are a great way to avoid much more expensive treatments as well as costly damage to your boat.
