Western Subterranean Termite

Western subterranean termite swarmers are
approximately 3/8 in long, including wings, and
their bodies are dark brown to black in color.
Swarming usually occurs after rains.

After swarming, king and queens form cells in
the soil and mate which is the creation of the
colony.

Western Subterranean termites live in the ground
and travel in mud tubes to the wood for food.
However, if the wood moisture is 20% or more,
the Western Subterranean termites can survive
in the wood without returning to the ground.
